Visiting Mecca

My art buddy, Ed Penniman, managed an invite to Mary Jo Koch’s studio for a couple hours. Truly, it was like visiting the Holy Land! I’ve been a huge fan of her work, and have had a couple of her books for years (she’s an amazingly gifted nature illustrator). She is the recipient, recently, of achievement awards for her work from both the DAR and the National League of American Pen Women, both rather exclusive orgs. So, wasn’t it a major thrill to learn she’s practically a neighbor and Ed knows her! She was warm, gracious and wonderful about sharing her work, techniques, and ideas. I was wonderfully blessed.

Her barn studio is outstanding and every artist’s dream. Huge ceiling, tons of room and tables for classes, and wall to wall art and specimens. Deep sigh….

Pescadero mustard field

Afterward, I took Ed to Duarte’s (famous for their cream of artichoke soup and ollieberry pie) for lunch. Was pleasantly surprised by swath of mustard along the way.
