Watercolor Accordion Book

Handmade accordion books can be wonderful for travel painting/sketching as well as archiving small painted masterpieces. The beauty of these booklets is that all sides and surfaces are available, getting complete use of your paper.  You can really let your creativity shine by designing your own book covers.

This one day workshop covers the basics of developing your own sketchbook/folio by cleverly folding a single full sheet of watercolor paper and adding front and back covers.  Cynthia will provide examples, demonstrations and ample time in class to start and finish this fun project.  Let's get crafty!

Materials for this workshop:

• 2 pieces - card stock, heavy cardboard, or mat board; 8" x 10" each - to be trimmed in class
• 1 full sheet watercolor paper, 22" x 30"; suggestions: 140# Cold or Hot press Arches OR 80# Strathmore Aquarius ii
• 2 or 3 sheets printing paper - 8.5 x 11"
• Mod Podge Hard Coat Adhesive - or acrylic mat medium, or other archival adhesive
• Craft brush
• Water containter - recycled yogurt container works well
• Scissors/exato knife/utility knife
• Self sealing cutting mat
• Fabric or art paper - enough to cover the two covers, front and back, with 1" overhand on all sides
• 1 Yard twin, ribbon, or 1/4" elastic banding
